Building Our Future: Love & Solidarity as the Pathway to Justice
Every year Jahajee Sisters' Indo-Caribbean Women's Empowerment Summit brings together hundreds of community members, partners and allies to build connections, exchange learnings and envision solutions to the social justice challenges we see in our communities. For the first time ever, this year's Summit will be a 3-day virtual conference open to all from across the globeto mobilize toward an end to gender injustice in the Indo-Caribbean community and beyond.
The Summit will consist of plenaries and cultural performances featuring an array of speakers and artists from the US, Canada and the Caribbean. We will also have a wide selection of interactive workshop sessions to attend. See below for an overview of the weekend's activities.
We are seeking workshop proposals for our 2020 Summit in the following tracks:
1) Indo-Caribbean History & Culture; 2) Arts, Creativity and Storytelling; 3) Healing Justice; 4) Political Education; and 5) Skill-Building
The deadline to submit is Sunday, October 25.
Workshop sessions are 90 minutes and can have two or more presenters. Expected attendance will range from 25-75 people. Please read the criteria below for what we are looking for.
Workshop Sessions We Want:
Participatory: They are interactive, engaging and participants aren't being "talked at" the entire time. Practical: They offer tools and ideas that participants can use and apply to their work, leadership and life. Intersectional: They have an intersectional analysis & approach to addressing systemic issues. Intergenerational: They are encouraging of the participation of young people as well as elders.
