We held our 2017 Indo-Caribbean Women's Empowerment Summit on Friday, March 31st at Queens Museum for the opening night and on Saturday, April 1st at Blue Star Center for a Day of Self & Community Care.
We celebrated 2 historic events: our 10th anniversary and 100 years since the end of Identureship in the Caribbean. The event included an engaging panel of artists, activists, and academics who led a powerful conversation on Indo-Caribbean Feminism: Krystal Ghisyawan, Elizabeth Jaikaran, Taij Moteelall and Lisa Outar. The event also included a dynamic lineup of artists: Shabana Bachu who shared a poem, Nadia Bourne and Simone Jhingoor who shared a collaborative spoken word performance and the Devangi Dance Duo who shared a few Classical Indian Dance and Bollywood Dance Performances.
We also had a talented team of health and wellness practitioners who joined us on the second day of the summit and shared their services in Ayurveda, Reiki and Life Coaching: Shweta Parmar, Ayurvedic Practitioner at Gutsier Living; Shanita Liu, Transformational Life Coach at Coach Shanita; and Anupriya Lorick, Reiki Master & Healer at Blue Star New York.
